Consulting Process

An example of how we work. Let's say...

You are a state-based network of grassroots organizations working to dismantle the prison-industrial complex. You believe a window has opened for shifting the conversation around community safety from prisons and punishment to healing and community investments. Working together, your network believes you can implement a narrative strategy that effectively moves the conversation and supports policy change.

How do you turn your network into a coalition that can organize and implement a coordinated strategy?

You contact NarrativeSeeds to work with your coalition to build the infrastructure, develop a strategy and design a long-term narrative campaign.

Dreaming Together...

Together, we discuss your dreams for shifting the public conversation on community safety and explore what it will take to shift people’s long-held beliefs about policing and punishment.

Some questions we’ll consider…

  1.  What existing narrative strategies and organizing efforts has your coalition already experimented with?
  2.  Have you tried co-organizing strategies before? What are some successes and lessons learned?
  3.  How do your members currently build their base of support? Would they be open to experimenting with narrative organizing as a base-building strategy?
  4.  Does your organization have any existing healing-justice practices? Are your members open to approaching storytelling through a healing-justice lens first?
  5.  Is your network prepared to invest in a slow, generational, healing-centered approach to narrative change?

Designing Our Work...

NarrativeSeeds develops a proposal for a 12-24-month engagement that takes your coalition through the following steps:

  • Seeding the ground with a narrative organizing workshop series for members
  • Incubating ideas and dreams with narrative mapping
  • Building infrastructure with narrative working groups & coalition facilitation
  • Developing strategy and theories of change
  • Designing narrative campaigns and trials
  • Evaluating, tweaking and documenting lessons through annual learnings reports

Are we a good fit?

NarrativeSeeds is a good fit for your work if…

  • Your organization has concluded that building long-term narrative organizing infrastructure is critical to moving your narrative strategy forward.
  • Your existing communication staff already has a full work plan, and you need additional capacity to build out narrative organizing.
  • You are committed to investing in the leadership development of your members and staff to sustain the work we build together.

The Courage to Go Slow...

NarrativeSeeds invites you to invest in the courage to go slow. Ours is not a partnership in rapid response, content creation or messaging – though those elements will come up. Rather, this is an intentional partnership to invest in slow, healing-centered narrative organizing – to make social justice narrative change lasting and sustainable.

If this is where your organization finds itself, then let’s schedule a discovery call to discuss what we can reasonably co-create in 12-24 months.
